Christmas lights shine bright in Proserpine
THERE is one street Proserpine motorists must add to their list for the next Christmas light drive.
The McCall family on Atkinson St came out on top of the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce and Guardian Christmas lights competition and were awarded $400 for their efforts.
The family hosted a carols event on Sunday night, raising $1100 for the Proserpine Citizens Band.
Ron McCall said he looked forward to keeping the Christmas spirit alive in Proserpine.
"We will continue for a while, we can't stop doing it because people look forward to seeing the lights,” he said.
"It's great our neighbours make the effort as well, we have a few this year.”
Tamarind Cres resident Emma Fuller was the runner-up, putting on a spectacular solar-powered Christmas display.
Mrs Fuller thanked the community for the wonderful feedback.
"I'm very appreciative, I didn't expect anything out of this and I'm happy to be acknowledged,” she said.
"I just love the cries of delight at night when you hear the kids go past.”
Proserpine Chamber president Chris Patrick congratulated everyone for taking part.
"It's great to see everyone do so much to spread the Christmas message and we hope to see them next year looking even better,” he said.
"We also thank the community for getting behind the #ShopProserpine hashtag and shopping locally.”
Judging panellist and Councillor John Collins praised the community for lighting up Proserpine.
"I know the effort and how much money people have invested in Christmas lights to make their houses look so good.”
