Circus workshop rolls into town

ROLL up, roll up because the Sensory Circus Tribe is coming to town at Cannonvale State School.

This school holidays, kids aged 2-17 will be able to take part in circus skills workshops.

Skills like trapeze, silk, acro balance, staff twirling, hula hoop, lyra, juggling and for the slightly older kids (9-17) they can even work with fire.

The workshops are being run in association with the Whitsunday Film Musical and Theatrical Society, enabling children of all ages to experience fun, hands-on activities within a safe environment.

Director of WFMTS Steve Wickett said the aim was to build a young person's skills base in the performance arts "so that they have an idea of what they might like to pursue as they get older".

"In essence these workshops are aimed at building creative career pathways for young people, at the same time engaging youth in self-development through performance arts workshops and productions that help them build vital self-esteem and self-confidence. We encourage people to get involved," he said.

Mr Wickett said bringing in circus activities, was a first for the Whitsundays.

"It's the first time we've brought them up. There's been a good number of bookings already. We're looking forward to it," he said.

He said they'd love to talk to anyone who might be interested in working with WFMTS in developing our own fulltime circus and offering circus skills workshops more regularly in the Whitsundays.

There are limited spaces. Bookings will be taken up until the day.

Head to http://www.wfmts.com.au for all bookings and enquiries.

WFMTS will also be bringing NIDA make-up and SPFX workshops to the region in September and are currently running a short story writing competition.
