Praise for the efforts of Suncorp

A YEAR ago Barry Fail received a text at Los Angeles airport saying that houses in low-lying areas of Ipswich were about to go under.

Mr Fail and his wife Joan were on their way home from holidays in the US when the bad news about their North Booval home came through.

The home, built by Mr Fail, went under in the floods but a year on he is set to celebrate the fact that his abode of 36 years has been completely refitted and looks as new - despite suffering $175,000 worth of damage.

Insurance companies have copped plenty since the floods but Mr Fail said Suncorp Insurance had been outstanding when the couple received a visit yesterday from Suncorp CEO of personal insurance Mark Milliner.

"We came home from America and rescued as many personal belongings and family photos as we could," he said.

"The water went right over the roof and collapsed the ceiling. As soon as the water went down we contacted Suncorp. Structurally it was sound so the contractors were contacted. They had to replace the entire ceiling and the whole interior. Everything you see is new.

"Suncorp were great. We were allocated a co-ordinator and had a personal contact all the time. We lived with family for a few months and Suncorp paid for a rental for six months which was fantastic. Now we are celebrating in the park on Saturday with my family and people who helped us."
