A FORMER "tomboy" who once shied away from mirrors could soon be strutting her stuff in Las Vegas.

Toowoomba pin-up Melanie Lovell, better known as Miss Diamond Divine, has been nominated for the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend Pin-Up Pageant in April.

About 80 women from as far as Iceland and Australia have been short-listed but only 12 will share the stage - six picked by a judging panel and another six voted for by the public.

"I turn 30 this year, so why not give it my all?" Miss Divine laughed.

"I've been in pageants for the past four years but America is the home of that culture.

"I'm going to go whether I make it or not. Over there, it doesn't matter if you're a star or just anybody - everybody gets along. It's the biggest rockabilly event in the world."

Miss Divine uses her pin-up persona to promote self-love.

"Pin-up (culture) has helped me love my body. I used to be a tomboy, I didn't like my curves and I didn't fit into mainstream clothes but I've found my home," she said.

"I help people through my modelling page. I talk about my anxiety and a chronic pain condition I have. I talk about it to show that I'm still here, I'm still putting myself out there no matter what happens."

This purple-haired pin-up is ready to rock the US.
