Classic draws in big crowds for family fun

THE 2016 Bowen Family Fishing Classic lived up to its good name at the weekend, welcoming revellers from all across the region.

Crowds flocked for a fun time in the sun at the top of the Whitsundays.

With live entertainment featuring super star Shannon Noll, fine fishing weather and the ever popular lolly drop, it was easy to see why the classic was such a success.

Luke Watson claimed the Senior Champion Angler title, while Madison Miller did enough to be named Junior Champion Angler.

The Lucky Weigh In Senior was Jade Calder, with Melissa Eisemann taking home the Heaviest Fish by Female Angler.

There were some impressive examples taken in the individual species as well, with a spanish mackerel going to 24kg.

Tim Close was the Senior Wilson Trifecta Challenge Champion, with the Junior title taken out by Chloe Tawse. One very happy angler was Crystalbrook's Ashley Fennel, taking out the Senior Boat prize, the Bluefin Silver Edition 4.8.

The Junior Boat prize, a Bluefin 3.5 Blaze Bandit, was taken out by Bowen's Aki Roth.
