Classy coach to assist our riders
QUEENSLAND'S current equestrian 'Coach of the Year' is coming to the region to teach Whitsunday riders at a special clinic in June.
Shane Davidson recently won Equestrian Queensland's Coach of the Year for 2011 and will share his years of experience with up-and-coming riders from the Whitsunday Equestrian Group (WEG).
Davidson is currently competing in world cup showjumping competitions but will take time off to conduct a special dressage and showjumping clinic for the group this Friday - Sunday.
The visit from the renowned trainer and instructor is coming at just the right time for their members, as they gear up for the North Queensland Games at the end of June.
The showjumping segment of the games will be hosted by WEG for the first time this year at the Proserpine Showgrounds on Sunday June 24 and Monday June 25.
"Shane is not only a successful showjumping and dressage competitor but he is also a professional trainer and I am sure he is going to really inspire the riders in the lead-up to the games," said WEG's secretary Tracey Davies, who is organising the NQ Games showjumping.
"Competition is expected to be high at the games with a large number of riders travelling from as far north as Cairns and as far south as Rockhampton. Shane's visit is very timely and I am sure our members will learn a great deal."
The three-day clinic will focus on dressage and showjumping and the club's rising stars will be benefit greatly from Shane's instruction.
Whitsunday Equestrian Group regularly holds clinics for its members and organisers think this constant instruction has seen riders improve significantly over the past year.
The club is looking forward to hosting the North Queensland Games, which will see more than 30 sports staged across the Mackay-Whitsunday region, from June 22 to June 25.
Nominations for the equestrian events close on Friday, June 8 and anyone wanting more information can phone Tracey Davies on 0408 199 449.
