RUGBY LEAGUE

FOUR players from the Brahmans’ women’s side are sweating on letters to tell them whether or not they were selected for North Queensland after impressive performances at the Suncorp Games in Cairns over the weekend.

Naomi Bobongie, Pia Poid, Joey Nicols and Nicky Ruddell played in Cairns as part of the Mackay Wests Tigers representative side, winning a silver medal in the women’s rugby league competition.

Their second position was decided on aggregate score, the Tigers just missing out on gold after flogging Mareeba 48-0 and Mossman 46-0 in their only two games.

Both Poid, who played five-eight and lock and Bobongie, who played hooker, got over the line for tries during the tournament.

Nicols playing second row and Ruddell, playing wing, also made handy contributions during the two games.

All four were very thankful for the support they got from local businesses that donated prizes to an Easter raffle to help with their costs during the tournament.

The North Queensland side selected from the Suncorp Games will contest the State Championships to be played in Mackay in June.
