Club to host annual Easter Regatta
THE Whitsunday Sailing Club will be hosting their fourth annual Easter Off-Beach Regatta this weekend.
Competitors of all ages and various experience levels will go head to head in some lively racing on Pioneer Bay.
The junior division usually consists of children in racing boats such as X3's, Sabots and Optimists.
This year a Flying 11 will be added to the mix, which should be quite a sight zipping around the junior course.
In the senior division a mix of Catamarans, Dinghies and Skiffs - with a traditionally strong line-up of Tasars and Lasers joined by other designs such as MG14s and 29ers will head out on the water. For those looking for a more tactical race they can compete in the senior Corsair division.
If you've had some sailing experience and want to join the action then the club has a number of boats available for hire.
For juniors there are X3s and Sabots, while for adults and families Lasers, Corsairs and a Tasar are available for the weekend.
If you've never done any sailing before, but want to experience small boat racing for the first time, then there are a small number of crew positions available on Corsairs where you can race under the guidance of an experienced helmsperson.
Free camping is available at the club for the duration of the weekend, and entries, enquiries and expressions of interest can be made online. Visit the club website at www.easterregatta.com.au for more details.
