HERVEY Bay's Kylie Salmon was left in tears when she returned home from her nightly walk along Charlton Esplanade.

It was on Sunday evening when the mother-of-two had a car filled with young men pull up beside her and began hurling horrific obscenities and insults.

"They slowed down enough to almost stop next to me to say those things," Kylie told the Chronicle.

"They said, 'keep walking you fat f***king cow' and 'oh, whale season has come early this year'.

"They were just laughing and drove away."

The 37-year-old stood there on the esplanade track, shocked and fighting back tears.

"I looked around and thought, 'is that directed towards me?', it was malicious, it was bullying," she said.

"I thought it was pretty horrific.

"It was almost dark, around 7.30pm, it was definitely scary.

"I just stopped and had to collect myself, and I did almost cry. But I finished my walk and cried to my partner when I got home."

Despite the drive-by insults aimed at her, Kylie is showing true determination by sticking with her lifestyle change.

"I'll walk again tomorrow," she said defiantly.

"These people need to stop and think about what they're doing."

In the last month the mother of two young children has been able to lose 6kg by eating healthy and walking 10km every evening.

The catalyst for Kylie to begin nightly exercise and to change her diet has been to be a better mum.

"My partner and I have two kids, we are trying to be healthy and happy to be the best we can for our kids," she said.

"It has been a big lifestyle change - I've been eating very healthy."

"Nothing goes in my mouth that shouldn't."

Kylie has a message for anyone else who is trying to improve their lives and who may have encountered a similar situation.

"To the people who are doing the same as me, keep going," she insisted.

"Just ignore it and keep going."
