VIDEO: Kayaker captures moment whale swims under him
COFFS Harbour angler Paul Pallet was treated to an awe inspiring display by a humpback whale on Sunday while kayaking in waters off Coffs Harbour.
Paul held his kayak steady during the friendly encounter with the adult humpback while he managed to place his camera beneath the surface to capture the whale's song.
Paul said the whale began following him shortly after he had encountered a school of dolphins off McCauley's Beach.
"The whale appeared and for the next two and half hours followed me wherever I went," he said.
"I kayaked 15km and every time I stopped, a puff of air would appear 150m behind me... it was just a fantastic experience."
As a keen offshore kayaker, Mr Pallet said he's regularly encountered whales in the region during the migration season but they have seldom appeared as friendly than during Sunday's encounter.
After two and a half hours, the whale eventually continued on its migration north.
In true Aussie fashion, it was straight back into the fishing as Paul landed a nice snapper.
