Cold snap sees the mercury plummet
THERE was a reason getting out of bed this morning was especially difficult in the Whitsundays.
It was cold.
At the Proserpine airport the mercury is recorded to have dropped to a frosty 5.4 degrees, even chillier, the Mackay and Districts Weather Updates Facebook group say the mercury was hovering at the 1.7 degree mark at 7am.
These temperatures were in stark contrast to the 17.1 degree minimum recorded on Hamilton Island and all capital cities.
At the same time this morning in Sydney it was 10.5 degrees and in the notoriously cold Melbourne the mercury was hovering at the 10 degree mark at 7am this morning.
Expect chilly starts to the coming weekend also.
On Saturday and Sunday temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-20s from an overnight temperature of five degrees.
