Colour bomb dropped on Prossie for White Balloon Day
A TECHNICOLOUR bomb triggered a crater of delight at the Proserpine State High School oval yesterday.
The band played and and sausages sizzled as about 100 kids, parents and dogs were assaulted with coloured powder from all sides.
White Balloon Day on Friday concluded seven days of events and the first colour run in Proserpine celebrated the end of Child Protection Week.
Youth support worker at Madec, Hayden Kerr, said the colour run was made possible through the collaboration of four community service organisations.
The Whitsunday Neighbourhood Centre, Whitsunday Counselling and Support, the Proserpine Community Centre and Madec all lent their support to White Balloon Day.
"It was a good inter-agency collaboration and the Proserpine Lions helped with the barbecue as well,” Mr Kerr said.
"And we had a great big colour party at the end.”
White Balloon Day is Australia's largest campaign dedicated to preventing child sexual assault.
Now in its 21st year, White Balloon Day unites communities, businesses, schools and organisations annually to break the silence on child sexual assault and make a commitment to protecting Australian kids.
Mr Kerr said it was great to see so many supporting the cause in Proserpine and having fun doing it.
"They loved it. And it was good to see all ages from little ones right through to adults,” he said.
