Come-and-try day a success

NEW paddlers joined the outrigging community on Sunday at the Outrigging Whitsunday 'come and try' day at Shingley Beach.

Regular paddlers were joined by a group of 10 eager and new senior paddlers with two new junior members also signing up in the lead up to this year's competitive season.

Junior outrigging co-ordinator Adam Joyce said he was looking forward to this year's calendar of events after a strong season last year.

Several junior outriggers last year travelled to the Gold Coast to take part in junior development squads that helped the juniors prepare for big upcoming events.

These include the Gold Coast Cup that will be held on April 14 and 15 this year and also the National Marathon Titles in Mooloolaba in May.

With the addition of two new junior members last weekend, numbers are looking good for the junior club with Joyce encouraging others to come along and get involved.

Any children over the age of 10 who are interested in joining in the fun sport should come along on this Sunday or contact Adam Joyce on 0417 471 426.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the junior club should also contact Joyce.

Social outrigging will continue to be held on Sunday mornings at 7.30am as a lead up to competitions.

All are welcome to participate. Requirements are simple - a good attitude, a water bottle and an eagerness to learn.

Joyce said the first three outrigging training sessions were free but after that paddlers were expected to join Outrigging Whitsunday.
