Committee beefs up its research

A REGIONAL research committee has beefed up research and development for the south-west Queensland beef industry.

The South Queensland Regional Beef Research Committee provides advice and input to Meat Livestock Australia to guide its research and development priorities.

The committee includes beef producers from across the region and representatives from Condamine Alliance, Queensland Murray-Darling Committee, Department of Employment Economic Development and Innovation, University of Queensland and CSIRO.

One of the current projects endorsed by the research committee is looking at ways to improve pasture resilience and productivity by using legumes and other natural methods.

The committee is also encouraging producers in the region to attend the upcoming BeefUp Forums in Dalby on November 22 and Moonie on November 23.

The forums will provide beef producers with useful information and tools to improve their farming practices and confront emerging challenges facing the industry.

Some of the BeefUp Forum presentation topics include business management and landholder rights in coal seam gas areas.

Beef producers can register by phoning MLA on 1800675717.
