Community bands together to find family pet
CANNONVALE resident Craig Verrall is overwhelmed by the response he has received from the Whitsunday community to help locate his missing parrot.
Unfortunately, the pet is still missing but Mr Verrall received more than 100 shares of his posts on local Facebook groups.
He also contacted local vets, pet shops, Fauna Rescue Whitsunday Association, the Whitsunday Regional Council pound, RSPCA as well as parrotalert.com and other Eclectus and parrot forums.
"The Facebook support has been amazing, his lost poster has been shared hundreds of times by my friends and caring strangers, Suz Crabtree from lost pet co-ordinators has been posting notices via her page and many other lost/found, pet and bird lover sites have also shared the poster," he said.
Paco, the eclectus parrot got startled and flew away on Tuesday October 21.
Mr Verall said Paco's wings aren't clipped and he spends most of his day sitting on Mr Verrall's shoulder in his office. Paco is a Papua New Guinean variety.
He warns public members to look out for a bright green parrot with blue and red wings and a long curved yellow beak, wearing a purple flight harness.
"He does many tricks, says a few phrases, laughs, barks like a little dog, whistles for dogs but is petrified of most dogs. He is very friendly and will come up to almost anyone, he's not your regular bird," he said.
