Community chips in for relay
THERE are many ways people can help raise funds for Relay for Life.
With the event date approaching, the committee has welcomed a range of donations including cash as well as prizes that all help in making a successful fundraising event for Cancer Council Queensland.
Relay for Life committee team co-ordinator Jeanette Gray said local businesses who had put a team together recognised the value of the event and how raising money for a good cause could bring workmates together in a more relaxed and social environment.
She said the teams registered recognised the benefits of co-workers joining together for a good cause outside the work environment.
Relay For Life Whitsunday committee chair Corrine Hendrikse-Vinci said many businesses had donated great prizes to be given out during the weekend while others helped with the actual logistics of the event.
"The list of prizes is a mile long and includes accommodation, food vouchers, wine, gift vouchers, beauty products and even hair-cuts and movie tickets," she said. "So many businesses have generously donated to the event." Prizes up for grabs include a weekend at Hayman Island and a trip for two to Whitehaven Beach.
Relay for Life will be held at the Whitsunday Sports Park on May 14-15 where everyone can join in to raise funds in the fight against cancer.
