Community effort comes to fruition
LOGAN'S Adventure Playground is another step closer to completion.
Opening today, the new rope pyramid has been a long time in the making.
With the money raised through events hosted by the Parent Action Group, member Gabby Shaw gave a special thanks to all those who had donated.
"We just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who came out and supported the playground," she said.
"From the 80s night, to the Sportsman's Dinner, to the 50 Shades of Grey movie night, plus a sausage sizzle or two.
"The project couldn't have gotten this far without all our donors, especially our local business donors."
The total cost of the pyramid was around $55,000, including a $30,000 grant from Whitsunday Regional Council last year.
There's a long way to go yet for the playground, but the final product is set to be a sensation. "The pyramid supplier, Urban Play, when he saw John Harper's plan he said that once it was finished it would be the best playground in far north Queensland," PAG president Kellie Chart said.
"That's a massive drawcard for the area."
Located next to Cannonvale State School and across the road from Cannonvale Beach, the playground has already proven highly popular.
The sale of fence pickets has also been an important part of the fundraising process, with about 60 left to go.
"For just $99, you and your child can be immortalised in timber, with each fence post sold bearing the name of its owner.
Pickets can be purchased from logansadventureplayground.com," Ms Chart said.
The rope pyramid marks the end of the Parent Action Group's involvement, with the Play and Shine Project Group having taken over the management of the remainder of the project.
Work continues on the playground, with $31,000 raised for the next piece of equipment.
