Complaints about councillors

WHITSUNDAY Mayor Jennifer Whitney has confirmed that council is currently investigating at least one complaint about a councillor leaking confidential information.

Cr Whitney said that under the Local Government Act, all complaints must be investigated.

She said there were several complaints being investigated at the moment but would not confirm which councillors were being investigated or how many.

"We are continually getting complaints about different activities that councillors are undertaking," she said.

Cr Whitney said all complaints would be investigated and assessed, firstly by the CEO.

She said that councillors were often privy to confidential information which should not be leaked.

Bowen resident John Barnes says he has been accused of receiving confidential information and this was simply not true.

"I have reported dysfunctional financial reporting of council matters for about six months," he said.

"All my information has come from publicly available documents. I have not received anything from confidential sources."
