COOL NEW DIGS: Whitsunday Dirtriders president Kevin Burgess and Whitsunday Mayor Andrew Willcox officially open the new shade structure at the club’s raceway.

Cooler starts for our motocross members

OUR dirtriders will be fresher on the track thanks to a pair of new shade structures.

Paid for with two grants from Whitsunday Regional Council, Whitsunday Dirtriders president Kevin Burgess said a cooler start area made for happy riders.

"On a motocross race for example they might be waiting anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes on the gate," he said.

"If they can sit there shaded with their crew around them, no direct sun on them then their temperature and their bike temperature are going to be better."

Training days will also benefit from the new facilities.

"It provides the guys with somewhere to sit in the shade while they're being instructed by the coaches for their techniques," Mr Burgess said.

With the club set to host the Central Queensland Championships on June 11 and 12, Mr Burgess said the new structures would make for a more impressive race.

"A lot of riders state-wide and even from interstate will be coming," he said.

Mr Burgess asked locals to "get their backside track side and support us".

Racing starts at 9.30am on Saturday, June 11.

Spectators are welcome to watch for $10.
