A TOOWOOMBA police officer has been accused of rape.

The officer, aged in 40s, was charged in early October with one count of rape, unrelated to his duties as a police officer.

The matter was briefly mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

He has been stood down from his duties pending the court matter and an Ethical Standards Command investigation.

The case will be mentioned again on January 17, 2011.
