AN UPTIGHT, by-the-book, rigid policewoman is teamed up with a much more liberal sidekick and laughs ensue.

Sound familiar?

If you're a fan of Bullock-McCarthy's The Heat, you will love Hot Pursuit. Plus, this one has Latino stunner Sofia Vergara: what more could you want?

Reese Witherspoon plays female police officer Cooper, who is chained to the filing room of the evidence cupboard after she accidentally lights a person on fire using her taser. It would forever go down in history as "coopering it up".

We see Cooper in the back of her dad's police car in the opening scenes, growing up in the police world.

Fast forward and she is dedicated to the role and loves her job, but she's uptight and boring with a cute southern twang. Bless her. Cooper finally gets her big break when she's tasked with keeping watch on a crime boss's widow, Daniella Riva. Her mission is to bring the widow, played by Vergara, to Dallas to testify on a drug case.

Most of the comedy comes from the stark contrast between the unlikely duo: their morals, attitudes, height, dress sense and, erm ... chests. The pair become fugitives on the run after Cooper is framed as a bad cop and that's where the hilarity ensues.

They hit the road trying to escape would-be enemies.

They crawl out of truck stop windows, distract farmers who try to shoot, drive a bus while handcuffed together and steal a ute with a sleeping man in the back, all the while lugging a suitcase filled with diamond-encrusted high heels.

I was torn with my expectations of this film. I'm a huge Witherspoon fan but don't care much for Vergara's same-same characters.

But I was pleasantly surprised, laughing the whole way through.
