Cops use CCTV to track aggressive hawker

AN Airlie Beach man has been hit with a $353 fine after police officers used CCTV to track him down.

The 42-year-old entered a jewellers in Cannonvale at around 2.20pm yesterday, allegedly becoming aggressive when staff refused to buy an item he was selling.

The man had left by the time Whitsunday Police arrived, however the store's CCTV footage allowed officers to track him to a local address.

The man was issued with an on the spot fine after speaking with police.

The successful use of CCTV as a crime fighting tool comes less than a month after it was announced Airlie Beach would receive 84 cameras under the Safer Streets Programme.
