Costo causes stir at grand final clash
MP Jason Costigan has copped angry abuse on social media after the loss of the Whitsunday Brahmans to the Moranbah Magpies last week.
Mr Costigan wore a Magpies jersey to the grand final though his office is in Proserpine.
Many objected to his wardrobe choice and their ire seemed magnified after the Brahmans failed to win back-to-back premierships.
Jason Barrett's comment of "last term most definitely” is one of the few publishable comments and expressed the general sentiment of users.
However he did tell the Whitsunday Coast Guardian he had tried to secure a Brahmans' jumper but couldn't buy one and wasn't given one. Mr Costigan said the Magpies was the club he played footy for as a junior and if he could he would have cut two jumpers down the middle and stitched them together to indicate his support for both clubs.
"I've got have got a thick hide...but some of the comments were disgraceful,” he said.
"(The comments) only tell the community that this game isn't short of buffoons.”
