Council accepts boat ramp advice
THE PROPOSITION for an all tide boat ramp at Blackcurrant Island in the Whitsundays' north is another step closer to reaching a conclusion.
On Wednesday, Whitsunday Regional Council voted unanimously to accept pre-lodgement advice from the State Assessment and Referral Agency regarding the ramp.
Moved by Cr Peter Ramage and seconded by Cr Dave Clark, the motion also saw council resolve to consult with local boat ramp advocate Warren Hardy.
Director of planning and community Dan Staley said his department was "drawing up an action plan for council's consideration" around the tasks required to complete the ramp.
These 18 key criteria, identified by SARA, range from making an application for an access road to Native Title considerations.
Mr Staley said council would then be better informed to decide the ramp's future.
"It will be decided at that point in time as to whether council progresses on this project or looks at alternatives," he said.
"Once we've got an action plan we can have a conversation with Mr Hardy.
"The pre-lodgement advice has already been discussed with Mr Hardy at a meeting, and our plan of action moving forward will be subject to conversations with Mr Hardy."
Mr Hardy has been contacted for comment.
