Council demands more info

WHITSUNDAY Regional Councillors will have a site inspection at Cliffords Beach later this month before making a decision on a resort development in the area.

Cliffords Beach is at the end of Pringle Road, north-west of Airlie Beach and Cannonvale.

Castaway Bay Pty Ltd proposes to develop a resort-style residential development, including houses, accommodation units and multiple dwelling units.

The current proposal is for 86 mixed dwellings within a community title subdivision.

There will also be a community facility building for permanent and short-term residents and day visitors. It will include a cafe and convenience shop.

However, Council has requested further information about this major project – particularly about the impacts on Paluma Road and car parking.

Access to Cliffords Beach is via Pringle Road which adjoins Paluma Road.

The motion seeking more information was moved at a recent council meeting by Cr Jan Clifford. It was seconded by Cr Jennifer Whitney.

Castaway Pty Ltd is a company affiliated with Brisbane based development company, Insight Group Pty Ltd.

Insight has been involved in a number of projects including Oak Valley at Townsville and Bundaberg Central Plaza in Bundaberg.
