Council pledges fireworks for fair
FOR the first time in the event's five year history, the Whitsunday Regional Council have sponsored a fireworks display at the annual Rotary Christmas Fair.
President of Proserpine Rotary Jeff Boyle said council's involvement this year would ensure the people of Proserpine could enjoy the best festive season possible.
"We are very happy that the council has come on board to share with Rotary and to promote the Christmas Fair,” he said.
Mr Boyle has been involved with the Christmas Fair since its inception and said it was a fantastic event in which Main St was closed to traffic.
He said the street came alive with the sounds and smells of a north Queensland Christmas.
The Proserpine Citizens' Band will join with dancers from Dee Jays School of Dance and the Proserpine Baton Twirlers to create a festive atmosphere in the main street.
Throw in a jumping castle, a pirate ship ride and face painting and the scene is complete.
Mr Boyle said as the operator of a funeral business, he interacted professionally with many when they were grieving and experiencing a low point in their lives.
He said involvement in the Rotary Christmas Fair allowed the injection of joy back into the Proserpine community.
"It brings a positive smile to the town, it's nice to see the parents out with their children and it's just nice to help the community,” he said.
"In my business I see the bad side and it nice to see the good side as well.”
So on December 16 at 6pm, get on down to Main St as Proserpine celebrates Christmas.
Mr Boyle said the fireworks would not be too late and would be lit at 7.30pm.
