Council praises Garage Sale Trail

SPRING cleaning started for Whitsunday residents over the weekend.

The inaugural Whitsunday Garage Sale Trail saw plenty of people attend in search of a good bargain.

One man's trash became another man's treasure as pre-loved items ranging from books, clothes, DVDs and musical instruments were sold to new homes.

Whitsunday Regional Council organised the stalls with more than 80 set-up throughout the region.

Mayor Jennifer Whitney was pleased with the attendance across the Whitsundays.

"Council is very pleased with how the inaugural garage sale trail free community garage sales went on Saturday, with about 85 stallholders selling their wares, at the four townships across the Whitsunday region," Cr Whitney said.

"Hundreds of community members attended the garage sales hunting out a bargain or quirky item, with a wide range of products on offer; from fishing gear, arts and crafts, homewares, tools and even a boat.

"Council thanks the community for their enthusiasm and involvement and looks forward to even bigger community garage sales next year."

There were 29 garage sales held in Proserpine, 31 in Airlie Beach, four in Collinsville and roughly 20 were recorded in Bowen.
