Council seeks input to map region's future
WHITSUNDAY Regional Council is calling on residents to have their say on what is being billed a "roadmap” for the future.
The council is developing its Economic Development Strategy 2017-21 and would like to capture the community's vision and priorities for the region as part of this process.
Public consultation will take place this month, including community workshops in Airlie Beach, Bowen, Cannonvale, Collinsville and Proserpine.
Residents can also head online to find out more and give their feedback through the council's consultation website Your Say Whitsunday.
Mayor Andrew Willcox is encouraging all residents to come forward with ideas to support future investment and employment throughout the Whitsunday region.
"We want to know where the community believes council should focus its resources to help facilitate future industry and economic development,” CrWillcox said.
"What are your priorities for future development and the region's economic growth?
"What direction do you see the Whitsundays heading in economically?
"In response, we will be developing clear, actionable and achievable goals council can focus on over the next five years.”
The scheme will provide an overarching planning tool for the region, outlining practical strategies and activities, along with realistic budgets and implementation plans.
To get involved, come along to today's morning or evening session in Proserpine at the Proserpine Community Centre from 9.30-11.30am or 6-8pm.
Further community workshops will be held on Thursday, February 23.
The morning session from 9.30-11.30am will be at Whitsunday PCYC in Jubilee Pocket and the evening session from 6-8pm at the Reef Gateway Hotel in Cannonvale.
