Council to make waste a priority

WHITSUNDAY Regional Council has approved a draft Waste Management Strategy 2016-2021 and wants your feedback.

The draft will focus on waste as a service, as a resource and as a priority.

"Within each of these there are a number of actions proposed for the five-year life of the plan, including the provision of kerbside recycling collection services across the region,” Mayor Andrew Willcox said.

"I'm very aware that our community is passionate about kerbside recycling and while it is something that has been considered a couple of times over the years, it has never been implemented and it's time to change that,” he said.

Cr Willcox said the council would consider increasing kerbside waste bin collection services and there would be a strong focus on methods to help reduce bio solids in our landfills, and managing the landfill cells.

The draft will be available for public consultation for the community in coming weeks and can be found online at http://yoursay. whitsundayrc. qld.gov.au for 28 days.
