Woman killed, two others injured in horror highway smash
UPDATE 3.26pm: One person is dead and two are in hospital after a horror collision on the Bruce Hwy near The Leap.
According to police, a 4WD utility collided with the back of a caravan that had slowed in the northbound lane.
The ute crossed into oncoming traffic as it tried to avoid the northbound traffic and colliding with a car travelling south.
Sergeant Brendan Davis said a 43-year-old woman had died at the scene.
Police did not release information about the two people in the utility.
"We are still determining whether the weather has had any influence on the accident today," Sgt Davis said.
"There has been accidents along this roadway (Bruce Hwy) today."
RACQ CQ Rescue attended the scene, landing on the highway but did not evacuate anyone.
Mackay Police are taking to people involved in the incident and witnesses.
The highway is expected to be closed until about 6pm with diversions in place.
UPDATE 2pm: QAS said two people have been transported in stable conditions to Mackay Base Hospital.
UPDATE 1.45pm: Police are yet to confirm reports one person has died.
A QPS spokeswoman said the three-vehicle crash was being investigated by the Forensic Crash Unit.
RACQ CQ Rescue shared on social media that 'one person has died while two people have been transported to hospital'.
UPDATE 1pm: The RACQ-CQ Rescue crew has been tasked to the crash scene.
A QAS spokeswoman said it's still being determined how many patients have been involved.

UPDATE: Traffic is being diverted via Marian-Hampden Rd by police.
Four ambulance units are in attendance a QAS spokeswoman said.

EARLIER: Bruce Hwy north of Mackay is blocked in both directions due to a two-vehicle crash.
Emergency services received the call to attend the crash at 12.20pm.
The crash occurred about 4kms north of The Leap and it's not yet clear if anyone has been injured.
