Crews battle grass fire on outskirts of Bowen

THREE crews are battling a grass fire on the outskirts of Bowen that broke out on Sunday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said crews were called to a fire near the intersection of Norris St and Powell St about 4.15pm on Sunday.

Crews returned to the fire this morning.

She said there was no threat to property and that three crews are currently on scene doing backburning to help control the blaze.

It is not clear how the fire started.

Nearby residents may be affected by smoke and are being encouraged to close their windows and doors and keep medications close by if they suffer from a respiratory condition.

Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat, they are advised to call triple-0 immediately.
