Crime and Corruption Committee descends into farce

THE men and women charged with standing between Queensland and corruption spent an hour on Monday arguing over meeting protocols, whether it was the job of the (acting) chair to interrupt and when lunch is held during parliamentary sittings.

The Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Committee did manage to take a break from squabbling to discuss the real world implications of the potential security breach brought about by former committee member Jo-Ann Miller's failure to properly handle confidential documents when returning a safe to the committee.

All PCCC members were required to sign a form stating they had either returned or destroyed the confidential documents, relating to Crime and Corruption Commission activities or PCCC business, in their possession when leaving the committee.

But the safe Ms Miller had been supplied to keep those documents in was returned with papers still inside it.

The PCCC, currently led by Labor MP Peter Russo while the battle between the government MPs and Jeff Seeney, the LNP's nominee to head the committee, continues to rage, met to discuss the issue on Monday.
