Crucial comeback for Whitsunday FC

PREMIER MENS

WHITSUNDAY FC produced a stirring second half comeback to defeat Rangers 3-2 in Mackay on Sunday.

The come from behind win came on the back of a superb second half performance, highlighted by a stunning hat trick to midfielder Joey Abedini.

Rangers got off to a perfect start with two early goals as WFC were once again forced to try and chase down an early deficit.

Abedini scored his first goal from the spot after midfielder Scott Lee had been brought down in the box but his side were still down 2-1 at the break.

It took no time for the away side to impose itself in the second half with captain Mark Killian up front and man of the match Ben Smith at left midfield beginning to expose the home side. The equaliser came minutes after half time after a brilliant curling shot from the in-form Abedini.

Abedini completed his hat-trick and a memorable comeback soon after as WFC celebrated just their second win of the season.

"It was a complete performance by every player on the park and one that should go a long way to building confidence in us [the team],"

Coach Anthony Nobilia said.

DIVISION 1

Captain and man of the match Micheal Lee lead a spirited revival as Whitsunday FC recorded its fourth win of the season with a 4-3 win come from behind win against the Rangers in Mackay on Sunday.

After opening the scoring through Kerrin Taylor the visitors found themselves at the mercy of the Rangers and were down 3-1 by the early stages of the second half.

Cy Taylor and Michael Lee managed to even the ledger with second half goals before Mathew Hoole scored the much deserved winner with five minutes remaining in the match.

WOMENS

Another day with limited players available for selection for WFC cost them dearly in their 8-0 loss to Rangers. A well organised Rangers team dominated most of the match and exploited a much weakened Whitsunday defence, especially in the first half. Whitsunday managed to remain composed and slightly better organised for the first 10 minutes of the second half but some individual brilliance from the home team sealed an easy win for Rangers.
