Cruise ships double delight

"MY ONLY complaint was that it wasn't long enough," said Sydneysider June Romero as she headed down the gangway of the Shute Harbour Marina to board Pacific Pearl after a day exploring Airlie Beach.

"I'll be back, that's for sure," she continued.

"I was last here 20 years ago and it's changed so much, but still such a peaceful, colourful and picturesque town."

Thursday brought a sea of white and blue Hawaiian shirts as local cruise ship volunteer ambassadors were all about town for two massive cruise ship arrivals.

As well as Pacific Pearl, Airlie Beach also welcomed Pacific Dawn to Abell Point Marina.

A total of 3696 passengers came ashore, 3123 headed into town and 836 on tours. The sea of blue spilled into the town as volunteers ushered and guided guests onto buses or pointed out directions.
