Crushing season over

PROSERPINE mill's 2013 crushing season is over.

The last cane was crushed at 1.40pm on Monday.

A total of about 1.632 million tonnes of cane was crushed for the season with a CCS average of 14.67.

Wilmar Sugar Mackay regional operations manager Danny Van der Berg said he was pleased with the mill's improved performance this year.

"While we still had more significant stops than we would have liked, we crushed much more consistently this year.

"We also bedded down our processes and systems during the season and finished strongly which sets us up well for next year."

Importantly, the site also achieved a significant improvement in its safety performance.

Mr Van der Berg thanked all Proserpine growers, harvesting contractors and Wilmar Sugar employees for their efforts and co-operation throughout the crushing season.

He said rain received in the past week has given next year's crop a much-needed boost, with some parts of the district receiving up to 100mm.
