Daly quits after nightmare round

ANOTHER day, another John Daly meltdown. The erratic American golfer has staged another walkout in Australia, quitting the Australian Open tournament after putting up to seven balls in the water on the 11th hole at The Lakes today.

Daly, who quit the Australian PGA at Coolum in 2002 and had a run-in with a spectator on course at the Australian Open in 2008, shook hands with his playing partner Craig Parry before walking off the course, after his 11th hole meltdown.

He was immediately whisked away in a white four-wheel-drive.

Daly had been frustrated after a triple bogey on the 10th, during which he was penalised for hitting the wrong ball.

"I believe he's hit five or six balls in the water. I'm not really sure," tournament director Trevor Herden said.
