Dance discipline earns top results
STUDENTS from Dee Jays School of Dance are celebrating great things after a successful Charters Towers eisteddfod and getting their Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Examination results.
At the Charters Towers eisteddfod, the children danced as soloists and in duets in many styles from tap to demi character and jazz.
Nine-year-old Sarah Wilson was a standout at the event taking out the Fittock Family Tap Dancer Under 9 Award.
Studio principal Denise Hadley said the students' hard work and discipline not only paid off at the eisteddfod but also in recent examinations.
After six months of steady and consistent training, a Sydney examiner visited the Proserpine studio to assess the progress and standard of the students.
The studio received outstanding results with more than half of the students receiving the highest mark possible from the exam.
Ms Hadley even visited her student Georgie Bailey in Brisbane to watch her RAD Solo Seal Examination.
"Georgie was divine, I didn't get halfway through watching the first exercise and was crying with pride," she said.
Next month Georgie will fly to London to compete in the Genee Balley Awards, a prestigious international ballet competition. "What an exciting adventure for a girl who calls the Whitsundays home," Ms Hadley added.
