Dangerous driver captured

A 36-YEAR-OLD Mackay man is currently in custody after attempting to evade police in the Whitsunday region earlier today.

Whitsunday Police Station officer in charge Sergeant Nathan Blain said Proserpine Police had received reports of a yellow Holden ute driving erratically on the Bruce Highway at 11.10am.

Whitsunday Police located the ute heading towards Airlie Beach, where it failed to stop "a number of times".

Police then located the ute on Shute Harbour Road, Mount Marlow, where it again attempted to evade police before blowing a tyre.

The Mackay man now faces a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, as well as a number of other traffic offences.

The ute was seized for a mechanical inspection which will form part of the brief of evidence.

Sgt Blain said the arrest showed how community reporting could assist police.

"It's a good example of good information from the community helping police detect these dangerous drivers and putting them before the court," he said.
