Dawson candidates to plead case to Whitsunday voters
HEAR each party's promises straight from the horse's mouth with a 'meet the candidates' forum set for Tuesday.
Hosted by the Whitsunday Coast Chamber of Commerce, president Kevin Collins said many in the community were eager to be informed.
"A lot of people are really interested in meeting the candidates," he said.
"If you can look them in the eye, ask a question and hear the answer it can go a long way to influencing how you're going to vote.
"There has been a lot of media about the candidates and this is just a good opportunity for face-to-face contact."
The forum is open to everyone, with time for questions from the audience.
"Each candidate will have 10 minutes, which means the session will run for around an hour, and then there will be an hour for open questions with a moderator," Mr Collins said.
With the election already heating up, the chamber president said all questions would be allowed.
"(But) we're not going to allow anyone to railroad the event along a particular path," he said.
"We're hoping to get a broad range of questions on a range of topics and give all the candidates a fair go."
Sitting Dawson MP George Christensen has confirmed he will speak at the forum, despite turning down the opportunity to address last night's Vote for the Reef Election Forum held in Townsville.
The Dawson candidates are:
- Michael Hall (Glenn Lazarus Team)
- George Christensen (LNP)
- Steven Large (Independent)
- Ashley Dodd (KAP)
- Amanda Nickson (Family First)
- Frank Gilbert (ALP)
- Jonathon Dykyj (Greens).
