Dead men tell no tales on beach

IT WAS a case of "lights, camera, action" when a band of ghoulish pirates led by the villainous Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) walked out of the water on Whitehaven Beach.

The scene, shot on Saturday, was part of the fifth instalment of Disney's epic series Pirates of the Caribbean - aptly tagged "Dead Men Tell No Tales".

Present on set were Hollywood heavyweight Johnny Depp, who plays the loveable rogue Captain Jack Sparrow; British actress Kaya Scodelario, the film's leading lady; and Spanish Academy Award winner Javier Bardem, who plays the evil Captain Salazar.

Bardem is no stranger to "evil" roles, having graced the silver screen as the villain in the last Bond film, Skyfall. Scodelario is well-known for her work in the UK, and Depp needs no introduction.

While Disney has released little about the plot details to date, it's believed the storyline for the film, scheduled to be released in mid-2017, centres around Captain Salazar and his ghost pirate crew, whose mission is to kill all other pirates, including Captain Jack, who must find the trident of Poseidon to save himself.

Cast and crew of the blockbuster production arrived in the Whitsundays ahead of Saturday's location start, with filming scheduled to wrap up yesterday.
