Dingo Beach resident fires up at council

AN ANGRY Dingo Beach resident has had a dig at Whitsunday Regional Council in response to a perceived lack of action in repairing the Dingo Beach stinger net.

Frank Jonson wrote to the Whitsunday Regional Council in October pointing out the problems with the net and expressing his opinion that no one in the council cared about Dingo Beach.

"The posts and rails are rotten, there are large gaps in the netting, the cooking facility at the north end and the sign at Nelly Bay is broken,” he wrote.

"Don't bother swimming here. The council has made it clear for many years that no one cares.

"Things that need attention reported (to the division's councillor Peter) Ramage, nil. I have never seen him here. I don't think that he has ever been to a meeting here.”

Adam Hagy, the manager of Parks and Gardens at the Whitsunday Regional Council, replied to Mr Jonson's criticism by saying repairs to the stinger net had been scheduled for early November.

"The swimming enclosure is currently being quoted for repairs. Apologies for the delay in addressing this issue,” he wrote.

However on Monday no work had started.

"I can assure you that council cares about the infrastructure at Dingo Beach and Hydeaway Bay,” Mr Hagy said.

"And in relation to Cr Ramage, I have found him to be a strong advocate for this division and know first-hand that he visits quite regularly and highlights work that is required. As far as inspections and maintenance are concerned our security provider, maintenance contractor and other residents are quick to let us know about issues that need addressing. Council strives to rectify the issues as soon as possible.”
