Dirt riders tear up the track at Woodstock

THREE members of the Whitsunday Dirt Riders Club travelled to Woodstock last weekend to compete in the Hayden Pittman Memorial Meet.

The meet was hosted by the Townsville Motorcycle Club and was held over two days with Saturday dedicated to motocross racing followed by dirt track racing on Sunday.

Riders could enter a single event or test their skills across the different terrains of both classes.

Points were added together from both days for the overall results.

Local rider Georgia Murray won three from three in the motocross event on Saturday and achieved second place in all four races on Sunday to win the overall women's trophy.

After a solid performance on Saturday at motocross, Mackay's Michael Kirkness dominated the dirt track on Sunday to place second overall behind Townsville's Jake Wright.

Young gun Hunter Penhallurick only took part in Sunday's dirt track event but rode extremely well to take out three first's and one second on his 65cc and another three first's and one second on his 85cc.

The event was held to honour the memory of Hayden Pittman who passed away two years ago from a head injury after crashing his motorbike during practice.

All riders are looking forward to taking part in the event next year. The Whitsunday Dirt Riders Club will be hosting their second dirt track event of the year at Dray's Park on Sunday, March 30.
