Do you know these men? Police investigate card skimming

DETECTIVES investigating the theft of cash from a bank account using an ATM skimming device have released images of four men who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

On April 2 two men approached an 88-year-old man as he was using an ATM at a Nerang Shopping Centre. The men distracted the victim by offering to assist him as he was withdrawing cash. It is believed the men were using a portable skimming device.

During the month of April there were multiple cash withdrawals from the victim's account from various ATM locations around Brisbane and Redcliffe.

On May 26 two other men approached an elderly man who had just finished using an ATM at a Kippa Ring Shopping Centre. The men asked the elderly man to return to the ATM claiming he had left cash in the machine, suggesting he check his account. Witnesses saw the men attempting to use a mobile phone to film the PIN being entered.

Detectives are investigating similar incidents where the four men are believed to be deliberately targeting elderly people and attempting to confuse them by interrupting or offering advice as they are using an ATM.

Police would like to remind people to be vigilant when using an ATM and to look for any suspicious device attached to the card entry point and to always maintain security of your PIN. Any suspicious behavior should be reported to police immediately.
