Toowoomba GP targeted for stance on gay marriage

A TOOWOOMBA doctor who is an outspoken opponent to same-sex marriage has been targeted for his stance.

Dr David van Gend of the Australian Marriage Forum said he returned from an interstate visit on Monday to find his Toowoomba medical centre vandalised with the word "bigot", the anarchy symbol, and his surname.

The photo is circulating on social media showing the words "VANGEND BIGOT" in black and red spray paint.

Dr van Gend has been quoted as saying opponents of gay marriage are regularly targets of vile behaviour.

Prominent Toowoomba Christian identity Isaac Moody posted the image on Facebook page and wrote, "Those who call for tolerance seem remarkably intolerant."

"Dr David van Gend is a good friend of mine and a thoroughly decent, kind and generous person.

"When it comes to the marriage debate, he is concerned about what is in the best interests of children. So sad to see him attacked like this."

Toowoomba Police confirmed they were investigating a graffiti attack on a Toowoomba Medical Centre.

A spokesman said anyone who had information on the matter should contact Toowoomba Police or call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit
