Door knock on sunday
THE Salvation Army is preparing itself for its biggest annual fundraising effort with the Red Shield Appeal door knock to be held this Sunday.
The appeal runs throughout the weekend but the Whitsunday Salvos are hoping to have as many volunteers as possible to help them knock on doors throughout the community for two to three hours from 8.30am on Sunday.
For those who are available to help, the meeting point for volunteers will be outside the Westpac Bank in Cannonvale.
Chairman of the Whitsunday Red Shield Service Unit John Ryan said that they will need as many hands on deck as possible.
“It's a tough time financially with the global economic crisis taking hold so there'll be more and more people in need of help from the Salvation Army in 2009,” he said.
If you miss the door knock this weekend there are other ways to give by ringing 137 258 or donating at salvos.org.au.
