Drifters ‘not welcome back’ to Proserpine track
WHITSUNDAY Drifters have been given their marching orders by the Whitsunday Moto Sport committee.
The drifting series of races was run by Proximity Motorsport in Mackay, who heralded their first event in May as a huge success.
But a month after the event Alyssa Cockings from Proximity Motorsport got an email from the track's owner, Whitsunday Moto Sport who were not happy with how it had been run.
"They asked us to respond with solutions for the issues they had, which we did and they've basically just said 'it doesn't matter the committee have voted you out'," she said.
Vice president of Whitsunday Moto Sport Andrew Auld said the track was damaged by drivers navigating the circuit without tyres on their car and one driver who continued to drive after his wheel had fallen off.
"They didn't address the issues we bought up and are not welcome back," he said.
Mr Auld also cited safety infringements including smoking in the pit area and passengers travelling in cars without proper authorisation.
Mr Auld said the club was open to negotiation and he didn't rule out a return of drift racing to the Proserpine track in the future.
