Drivers stranded as Mackay's streets flood
DRIVERS were stranded outside the IGA on Bridge Rd when heavy rain flooded city streets.
Two people had to be rescued from one vehicle stalled in about half a metre of water on the road at 11.37am yesterday.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said three cars had been stuck in the water.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesman said there had been no need for a swift water rescue.
"The water wasn't that deep, it was just the volume of it," he said.
At least four police crews had to be called out to help motorists struggling to negotiate the chaotic aftermath of flash flooding.
"(Motorists) need to be aware of flooded streets and roads and drive to conditions," Mackay district duty officer Senior Sergent Mark Dwyer said.
