Drugs, aggression and DV
A 44-YEAR-OLD local man was handed a nine-month suspended jail sentence in Proserpine Magistrates Court on Monday.
The man pleaded guilty to a string of charges, including public nuisance, possessing drugs and drug utensils and contravening a domestic violence order.
Acting Senior Constable Tyler Roberts said the offending began when the man attended Neato Employment Services in Cannonvale at about 2.15pm on an an undisclosed date.
The man became aggressive, resulting in the business being locked down.
Police attended the man's home at about 5.20pm, with the man saying his behaviour had been "polite and respectful”.
The charge of contravening a domestic violence order arose from an incident at about 1.50am on March 14. The man's neighbours called police to report hearing an argument next door. Officers arrived a short time later.
"The male could be heard yelling, 'You want me to break your ****ing wrist?'” Snr Const Roberts said.
Defence solicitor Rosemary Varley said her client suffered seizures that caused him to black out, and the yelling had been due to the pain he was suffering as he recovered.
"When he is coming to, his body, I'm instructed, seizes and his partner assists him by helping him to relax his muscles,” she said.
"And doing so can be quite painful to the defendant.”
Finally, the court heard police searched the man's home at about 3.50pm on August 13.
Officers located 1.3g of cannabis in a clip-seal bag in the man's jeans pocket and a water pipe behind the couch.
The man was on a suspended sentence for burglary at the time of committing the offences.
