Drunk man rampages over delay, damages hospital
A DRUNK and destructive rampage at Proserpine Hospital has cost David William Robert Crowther $850.50.
Proserpine Magistrate's Court heard on Monday that around 8.45pm on August 8, Crowther attended the hospital where he broke into a cabinet and drawer.
Police prosecutor Acting Senior Constable Tyrone Roberts said Crowther went to the hospital and asked to see a doctor over a medical issue.
Staff explained there was a waiting period and admitted him into a ward.
"When the nurse entered the room he became verbally aggressive and (started) swearing," Constable Roberts said, adding he'd started yelling "he wanted to see a doctor straight away".
The nurse called security and Crowther went to a locked cabinet next to a bed and forcibly pulled the drawer and broke the lock. He then "took an unknown medication from inside the cabinet and disposed of it by an unknown means," Constable Roberts said.
Security attended and Crowther became increasingly aggressive and belligerent.
"He explained to police that he was heavily intoxicated at the time and was apologetic for his actions," Constable Roberts said.
Crowther said he was still suffering from ongoing medical issues.
"Since that day I've given myself a personal ban from drinking for six months," he said.
"I don't know what happened that night. I'm never normally aggressive."
He was fined $750 and ordered to pay $100.50 in restitution to the hospital.
