Dry weather welcomed by cane industry

ANOTHER 90,000 tonnes of cane was pushed through Wilmar's Proserpine mill this week.

Season to date tonnage is sitting at almost 382,000 tonnes.

In his weekly mill report Cane supply manager Tony Marino said this week's figures were achieved despite a scheduled stop on Wednesday to clean the evaporators and the No. 4 boiler induced draft fan.

Mr Marino said it was fortunate that the significant rain event forecast at the weekend did not eventuate and light showers meant harvesting conditions remained manageable, with crushing operations continuing uninterrupted.

Average weekly commercial cane content increased by 0.16 of a unit, from last week, to 13.18.

The highest CCS sample was 15.78 from a rake of seventh ratoon KQ228 in the Elaroo Productivity District.
